Ray Dowding Photo Imagery

I first gained a serious interest in photography just over 40 years ago at which time I founded Fentham Photographic Society based in Erdington, Birmingham. It is rewarding to note that its members are still turning out work of an excellent standard. At that time my passion was audio visual (slide-sound) in which medium I gained both my Associateship and Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.

During this time I judged several International Exhibitions and was very privileged to be invited to sit on the RPS Distinctions Panel for Audio-Visual.

However, work took me away from home forcing me to take a gap year from photography, a period that lasted for almost 25 years! I returned to photography, not having taken a serious picture in almost a quarter of a century, to find the digital revolution in full swing. Impressed by the possibilities on offer I quickly became a convert and in so doing rekindled my desire to communicate visually.

I rejoined my local photographic society, Smethwick Photographic Society, that I believe rates as one of the best in the UK. Pictorial, creative, portrait, natural history, sport and documentary images are all part of the rich tapestry of work exhibited at this centre of photographic excellence. Its members produce work of the highest quality, exploring creative and innovative thinking.

Presentations from the UK's top photographers, merit competitions, visiting exhibitions and images accepted for the Smethwick International Exhibition of Photography are all great sources of inspiration, although at times they can be quite humbling. Shortly, I shall have the honour to serve as President of this world-famous Photographic Society.

I have included a link from my site to Smethwick PS, in the links page, and I do recommend that you visit both the Members Gallery section and the International Awards section.

If you wish to e-mail me please see the contacts page, I would love to hear from you. Must go now, I still have 25 years to catch up on.
